This type of mini-intensive (generally 3 hours) is both educational and healing. We first focus on establishing a safe and loving connection so transformational change is possible. With an approach called Memory Reconsolidation, you’ll practice changing the way you react to certain events and begin to establish new ways of responding.
We will address recurring issues or life changes with a focus on communication, in safely discussing wants and desires, and understanding and accepting yourself and your partner. We approach this type of extended session in a more spontaneous fashion by meeting you where you are on that day without much pre-session work.
A one or two day (6 hours/day) intensive is the right choice if you have more complex issues, are confronting a major crisis in your life, or prefer to work in powerful blocks of time.
A one or two day could also be a good choice if you want to jumpstart a longer course of therapy. To prepare you and help you get the most out of our time together, you’ll complete a variety of questionnaires and assessments before you arrive. These also help us guide you in the right direction during our time together.
Sometimes the problem isn’t really the problem, and that’s why fights repeat endlessly. These questionnaires give us the clarity you need about what’s really going on and shows us exactly where the communication breakdown happens. This means we’re ready to start the session exactly where it counts, so we’re not wasting a single minute of your time.
When we have an understanding of the blocks that keep you from showing up the way you want to, we can start practicing the skills needed to be calm and present even if I’m not around.
When you practice these skills real-time and experience the changes, you’ll start to see that there is a way out of the same old patterns. You will feel safer and more seen, and be more connected to your partner.
This is when you and your partner will build the skills I’ve taught to couples for the last 20 years. This is when we roll up our sleeves and get down into the issues. This is where we help you express everything you need to feel fully heard. This is when we work with your partner to stay open and curious about what you have to say and why it’s important to you.
I’ve found that slowing things down and expressing one problem all the way through to the end is one of the best ways to feel heard and understood. In this process, I’ll help you get clear about what you really want to say, and help your partner express their vulnerability as well.
After our session, either the Deep Dive or the Couples Relationship Intensive, we will prepare a personalized overview of what emerged in session along with specific recommendations and resources to keep your momentum going. Real change takes time. The practice tools you receive during and after the session will help you when you are struggling to stay focused and remain positive, even when a slip up occurs (which it will!).
Follow up appointments over several months can be helpful if things start to slide. During this appointment, we will coach you away from falling back into the same painful patterns and toward the skills we worked on in our session together. More follow ups are available on an as-needed basis.
Call us today for a free 30-minute discovery session. We guarantee if we're not the people for you, we will help you find someone else (it won’t hurt our feelings!).
